Dietetic Technician Competency Audits
To ensure accuracy and quality job performance, the clinical nutrition coordinator conducts competency audits sporadically for the dietetic technicians. However, there was no set paperwork used to conduct said audits. I took the initiative to develop a competency checklist to be used when conducting the audits.. These audits are done in a manner that the diet techs do not know they are being so they are performing how they normally would. Upon finishing the new audit checklist paperwork, I observed and audited each diet tech at Carle.

Diet Office Order Accuracy Audits
Individuals who are hospital patients are placed on various therapeutic diets to ensure that appropriate nutrition status. Nutrition plays a key role in disease management and overall progress while in the hospital, but as a whole as well. Diet order accuracy audits are also conducted on a quarterly basis to ensure that patients are receiving trays that are compliant with the prescribed diet order and the restrictions that go along with them. I conducted audits on 40+ patients going through each meal they ordered/received during their stay in the hospital to make sure they were accurate (i.e. receiving the correct amount of carbohydrates per meal if on a diabetic diet or their sodium wasn't too high if they were on a cardiac diet).
