Hello! My name is Amanda and I'm a Registered Dietitian.
I recently graduated from the combined dietetic internship and Master of Science program through Eastern Illinois University in December 2018. While at EIU in Charleston, IL, I was a full-time graduate student and graduate assistant. I completed 1200-hours of supervised practice at Carle Foundation Hospital, a 413-bed hospital, in Urbana, IL. I received a Bachelor of Science in Food Science & Human Nutrition with a concentration in Dietetics and a minor in Spanish from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in May 2017 Growing up in a "foodie" household, nutrition and healthy lifestyles have always played major role in my life. Aspiring to be a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist originates from a personal experience. My grandfather was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes when I was in middle school and I was able to see the integral relationship between nutrition and disease prevention/maintenance, which inspired me to help others the way his dietitian helped him. My undergraduate education from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign prepared me for the fast-paced, rigorous environment of a Level-I trauma center throughout my dietetic internship. Achieving a Master’s degree has only enhanced my understanding of nutrition as therapy in an acute setting and how to effectively relay recommendations to patients in a way to evoke behavior change. My level of education combined with my unique experiences and valuable skill-set have set me up for success in the dietetics profession. |
